Ukraine opens accession talks with the European Union

On 2026-06-12, the European Union announced in Luxembourg that all member states had agreed to open the first accession negotiation cluster with Ukraine and Moldova. European Council President Antonio Costa said the bloc had taken a major step forward in the accession process, covering fundamental rights and justice chapters.
